Droitwich animal charity looks to ferret out sponsors for its rescue, care and re-homing work
Droitwich Ferret Welfare is a registered charity (no.1102038) involved with the rescue, care and re-homing of ferrets in need throughout Worcestershire and the surrounding area. Ferrets are fascinating animals which probably suffer more than most other domestic animals from neglect and sheer ignorance of their needs. Since the Welfare was established in 2003, hundreds of ferrets have been taken into care and the charity currently anticipates that over 200 animals will be brought to it every year. In essence the Welfare fosters stray, unwanted and abandoned ferrets, provides veterinary treatment where necessary, seeks new homes and carries out home checks where appropriate. The organisation has a non-breeding policy and generally all ferrets are neutered/spayed before rehoming. This is particularly important for jills (females), who often become very sick and even die from oestrogen-induced anaemia if they are not mated or provided with other means of coming out of season. The charity works with veterinary surgeons, other animal welfare organisations, pet stores, garden centres and local businesses. Sponsorship opportunities are now available. The organisation is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board.
