Biotruck's fuel may be landfill waste but media benefits for sponsors of its eco-adventure won't be rubbish
After successfully completing the world's first carbon neutral expedition by driving from the UK to Timbuktu in a truck fuelled by chocolate biodiesel, the BioTruck team is now preparing for their next eco-adventure, flying from the UK to Outer Mongolia in June 2008 using a fuel made from landfill waste. Starting from the Eden Project, they’ll be using the low-carbon fuel to power the BioTruck and two small powered paragliders to prove the viability of the bio-aviation fuel made from rubbish. It’s a technology that could soon have all passenger flights cutting carbon and putting rubbish to good use. Far from hair-brained eco-nonsense, this expedition is being monitored by independent experts who will certify the carbon footprint and ecological value. The team is looking for a single title sponsor that can meet the £80,000 operating budget for the expedition, but can also consider smaller contributions for a share of the exposure. The expedition organiser and former journalist, Andy Pag, has a proven track record for generating and managing media interest and delivering a genuinely environmentally beneficial expedition which has proved to be beyond criticism. The last expedition generated £200k of media value. A partial list of coverage can be seen here. This next expedition is set to double that level of media exposure, with numerous journalists keen to do follow up stories after the chocolate trip and a website that boasts 10,000 page impressions per week and commitments from four major TV broadcasters in the UK and internationally. "Plans for our next expedition have already appeared in the Sun newspaper (8” column + photo)", says Pag, "and the Daily Mirror has agreed to run an exclusive feature when we announce our title sponsor".
