OAT/PL001 | CYCLE BLACKPOOL HIRE-A-BIKE Blackpool Hire-a-Bike is the largest street-based, fixed station bike hire scheme in the UK outside of London. Similar in design to London's Barclays Bike Hire scheme, it has over fifty fixed on-street stations and 500 bikes available to the residents and visitors of the UK's foremost seaside resort, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Over twelve million visitors came to Blackpool in 2010 to visit the many unique attractions, including the pleasure beach, promenade, golden mile, zoo and parks, with bike stations positioned at every major attraction, including exits to the major car parks. Awareness of the scheme is high amongst residents and visitors and 2011 has seen growth in bike rentals of over 600% from 2010, with an estimated 80,000 miles total mileage to date. The scheme is promoted widely - and is a major part of cycling-associated events such as the Illuminations' Ride-the-lights, the Tour of Britain and Skyrides. Through the branding and information on the stations and bikes, the scheme creates a very large footprint in a very busy environment and as such is a highly attractive sponsorship opportunity. The network of stations provides twenty-four hour access to bikes for leisure, commuting and utility cycling. It improves the health of its members, reduces the impact of motorised vehicles in the busy town and has almost universal positive reception from residents and local press. The scheme is closely associated with VisitBlackpool, the NHS and Blackpool Council and is strongly supported by Blackpool Council members. Operated by Hourbike Ltd, a team of locally employed and trained mechanics ensure ongoing serviceability of the bikes and stations, and provides customer facing sales and support to customers on the street. An interactive voice response system provides twenty-four hour ticket fulfilment and a website provides online customer information and advance sales. The scheme is seeking a sponsor to ensure ongoing sustainability and growth of the project. Every aspect of the scheme branding, name, station and bike signage, materials and tariff are open to negotiation as part of the package. A single, multi-year sponsorship arrangement is preferred but all interested parties will be considered. A real time map of the extent of the station locations can be found at www.hourbike.com/blackpool (please see link below). Contact: Tim Caswell, Managing Director. OAT/PL002 | THE LC Europe's most exciting indoor surfing experience is now available for sponsorship. The Boardrider, which is the first of its kind in Europe, is owned and operated by South Wales' premier leisure complex, the LC, which is located in Swansea at the gateway to the Gower Peninsula, one of the UK's premier surfing destinations. The Edge, which is the LC's waterpark where the Boadrider is situated, attracted 267,000 visitors last year alone. The LC was opened in style by Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in 2008. The last few years have been extremely successful for the LC, with the complex picking up a host of awards for its services and offerings, as well as being named "Wales' Most Visited Paid for Attraction" by tourism body Visit Wales for two years running. The Boardrider provides perfect waves for both boogie boarding and stand up surfing, with a number of different speed settings to cater for all abilities. It is the first surf machine to work on a 'deep water' basis, as opposed to simply shooting shallow water across the surface. Waves are created by four pumps projecting water towards the surfboard at three different levels of speed - beginner, intermediate and pro. Air is then pumped into an adjustable 'hump' underneath the board, which increases the size of the wave according to individual ability. In addition to becoming an integral part of the indoor surfing revolution that is currently sweeping the UK, not to mention the rest of the world, further Boardrider sponsor benefits include re-branding of the Boardrider to include company name visual branding of the Boardrider's surrounding area and viewing platform option to add physical structures into surrounding area and viewing platform (eg deckchairs, beach scene, etc.) point of sale total control of sound system unique to the Boardrider area. More information, pictures and videos of the LC and the Boardrider are available on the LC website. Contact: Lauren Allchurch, Account Manager. Address: MGB PR, 2 Princess Way, Swansea SA1 3LW. OAT/001 | MARGATE HARBOUR ARM This is an opportunity to sponsor a permanent seaside look-out point for the public in Margate, Kent. The sponsorship will reach a wide range of people: UK seaside holiday visitors, contemporary art gallery visitors and local people of all ages in Kent. Margate is a seaside town undergoing huge regeneration, including the Margate Harbour Arm project (www.margateharbourarm.co.uk) which has turned a derelict pier into a new attraction with high quality offerings. So far there is an art gallery, artists' studios, a cafe, an ice cream shop, a gift and jewellery shop and, hopefully very soon, a fish restaurant and two more retail units. Margate Harbour Arm is located directly next to the site where the David Chipperfield-designed Turner Contemporary Gallery is currently being built. The Turner Contemporary is expected to attract 120,000 visitors per year. The location has panoramic sea views, and the proposed project aims to connect the public with the marine environment. The aim is to create a look-out point at the end of the Harbour Arm which makes the most of the location and the experience of being surrounded by sea. Information panels will be created but they will not just be the usual photo-and-info. They will be high quality in terms of content, appearance and construction, to complement the Harbour Arm project and to sit comfortably alongside the regeneration and artistic environment being created in Margate. It is anticipated that a local artist/cartoonist will be involved to make them something special. Local naturalists and teachers will also be involved to focus on the important facts, in a way which is accessible to both adults and children. Given the location, the durability of the structures is going to be very important and options have been discussed with an engineer and structural glass expert. Ideally it will also be possible to provide a platform with binoculars. The budget for the project is unlikely to exceed £15,000 but the exact amount required will depend upon specification. One sponsor is sought. Contact: Dr Fiona Sherriff. Address: 1 Beach Houses, Royal Crescent, Margate CT9 5AL. Tel.: 07968 209047. Fax: 01843 292375.
