THE GREAT GLENCOE CHALLENGE
The Great Glencoe Challenge is a 26.2 mile Trekathon organised by Ptarmigan Events which challenges participants to complete 26.2 miles through some of the most dramatic landscape that Scotland has to offer, from the heart of Glencoe to the foot of Ben Nevis and over 4,500ft of ascent in under twelve hours. If that's not tough enough, then participants also have the option to add on Ben Nevis! The challenge, which was launched in 2015, has already attracted over 450 participants, with just over six months until this year's event date. Not only that, it is attracting people from all over the UK and even Germany and Australia. With the option to self-fund or fundraise for their chosen charity, the event will raise funds for over thirty different charities, including Parkinson's UK, Maggie's, JDRF, Sight Action, Diabetes UK, Different Strokes, Marie Curie, Yorkhill and Motor Neurone Disease, to name a few. "This Challenge has grown at a fantastic rate since its inaugural launch in 2015 and the current registration rate indicates that it will continue to do so. We are now seeking sponsorship from sponsors large or small which will assist us with catering, goody bag prizes, celebrations post event and /or any donations of products and materials which will help to lower our overheads and enhance the experience of participants and volunteers on the day. This is an opportunity to sponsor Scotland's toughest Trekathon and be part of a new and exciting up-and-coming event from the beginning!" Contact: Andrea Armstrong. ISLE OF WIGHT WALKING FESTIVAL
A fantastic opportunity has just arisen for a partner/sponsor to be involved with the Isle of Wight Walking Festival, which is now in its twelfth year and is the largest in the UK. The festival's Title sponsor for five years has now gone through business transformation, and as their strategy has changed they will no longer be supporting events, which includes the Isle of Wight Walking Festival - leaving open this exciting opportunity. The festival has won the BBC Countryfile Magazine Readers Award for the best Walking Festival, and is currently shortlisted for the CIPR - Best Event Award and also the 2009 Tourism ExSELLence Award for the Best Event. This event would be the perfect opportunity for a sponsor/partner as it fits in nicely with the idea of reducing carbon footprints and also with healthy lifestyles, playing a role in helping people lead healthier lives by offering healthier product choices and encouraging consumers to lead active lives. The festival is looking for Title, Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors and also for product and clothing sponsors or contra deals. 2008 was the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Walking Festival, and in excess of 24,500 walkers took part. Also to add to the celebrations, a Celebratory Walking Weekend was organised - four days in October. This was so successful that the organisers decided to make it a permanent fixture in the events calendar. It attracted over 2,000 walkers to the festival, which is great for the Island's tourism as it extends the holiday season. The festival has been featured on BBC Countryfile in 2009 and on numerous other TV programmes, with many radio interviews both locally and all over the country. "We have become quite infamous for our Speed Dating Walks, and to date have had three weddings, and possibly a fourth one on the horizon! We have also introduced into the programme an evening at the theatre which has proved really popular, and to date we have had Ben Fogle, Alan Hinkes and Janet Street-Porter, and next year we have Brian Blessed (which will be a complete sell out). We have increased the programme of walks from 39 to over three hundred, and it has developed into a Walking Festival which offers walks for all ages and abilities, and fits well into the healthy initiative. We look forward to hearing from you soon". Contact: Elaine Cesar, Events Officer. Address: Isle of Wight Council, 5th Floor, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 1UD. Tel.: 07970 009909. ODYSSEY XX1
On the 1st November 1998, at Punta Arenas in Chile, former British paratrooper Karl Bushby took the first steps on a 36,000 mile long path that will lead him home. Unassisted by any form of transport, Karl was attempting what the world told him could not be done. He began a journey that will be the longest ever continuous journey on foot, doubling any existing records. Karl believed it was possible to journey by foot from the southern most point of South America back to England and leave behind him an unbroken trail of footsteps. This incredible journey began unsupported and unfunded, simply operating on unshakeable will, faith and endurance. The story unfolds over four continents, frozen seas, deserts and mountain ranges, from the jungles to the Arctic, in an estimated fourteen year adventure like no other. Karl has completed over nine years of this marathon, covering 17,000 miles. In 2000, he crossed the guerrilla-held jungles and swamps of the Darien Gap between Colombia and Panama - a feat even the local people considered impossible for a westerner. In 2006, he created a record by crossing from Alaska to Russia by walking/swimming the semi-frozen Bering Straits. His path now lies through Asia, across Europe and back into the UK using the service tunnel of the Channel Tunnel. He will not return home until he has walked back to the UK: as such, this is a continues endeavour. Currently the Odyssey is not sponsored. For a number of years the endeavour has been without a financial sponsor or partner, resulting in difficult logistical challenges in far north east Russia, where the politics, extreme environment and remoteness have left the Odyssey in a tight spot. The Odyssey needs a partner to see this one-of-a-kind adventure push beyond the Arctic Circle, south into Asia and for the big push for home. Contact: Karl Bushby. SWK/001 GREAT SCOTTISH WALKS
The Great Scottish Walks is now entering its eleventh year. Simultaneously supporting healthy living, these annual events offer the public the opportunity to be actively involved in beneficial health activities, community events and charitable fundraising, regardless of fitness and physical ability. Inclusivity is one of the keys to the event's continued success, promoted to all sections of the community, particularly encouraging groups, teams and families to walk. Originally, the Edinburgh event attracted approximately 2,000 walkers in aid of two charities. Now over 5,000 walkers of all ages participate, raising in excess of £1,000,000 for over 200 charities and leading to the launch of a Glasgow Great Walk. Introduced in 2004, the Great Wee Scottish Walks are locally focused events aimed at a younger audience and geographically placed to compliment the national walks. This year has seen an expansion of the number and activities of the Wee Walks, bringing the grand total to eight. Designed to engage children up to sixteen years old - an extension of the usual age limit of eleven years - the eight walks actively encourage young people to participate in physical activities, working to eliminate childhood obesity and other health problems, as well as promoting healthy living as a whole. Through sponsorship of the Great Scottish Walks and Great Wee Scottish Walks, an exciting opportunity is presented to promote the sponsor's company to a range of demographics, at ten walking events across Scotland. Those present will include a number of UK charities, fundraisers of all ages, physical ability and fitness levels, as well as local and national media. "We have a range of sponsorship opportunities to suit all budgets, including general sponsorship opportunities, trophy sponsorship, company mascots, etc. - and are happy to discuss and develop a package best suited to you".
