T-Mobile is to sponsor the popular consumer Street Ice event in Birmingham again this winter. An Olympic-sized outdoor rink, brought to the city by T-Mobile and Birmingham City Council, will return to Centenary Square from 29th November, 2007 to 13th January, 2008.
T-Mobile's reinvestment in the event follows two successful years of sponsorship, with a 17% increase on ticket sales from the sponsorship launch in 2005.
As part of its ongoing sponsorship programme in the region - which includes sponsorship of West Bromwich Albion FC - this year's Street Ice will see T-Mobile incorporating elements of its successful music sponsorship activities.
Customers and skaters visiting T-Mobile Street Ice will be able to choose their own skating soundtrack, courtesy of the on-event T-Mobile Street Ice Jukebox. The Jukebox will host tracks featured on Channel 4's Transmission with T-Mobile and T-Mobile Street Gigs, as well as those from local radio station BRMB, to create a unique selling point for the event.
This year T-Mobile has brought Sony Ericsson into Street Ice - brand ambassadors will be showcasing the new K850i Cyber-shot camera phone to capture skaters on the ice with photos printed for customers to take home.
Sam Taylor, T-Mobile Head of Advertising and Sponsorship, said: "T-Mobile Street Ice is an important annual element to our brand activation programme in the Midlands. Building on the success of Transmission with T-Mobile and Street Gigs, music will be a key feature of Street Ice. Together with local radio station BRMB, and live demonstrations of T-Mobile's Mobile Jukebox, T-Mobile Street Ice will be positioned as the place to chill out in Birmingham this winter.'
