The International Rugby Board (IRB) has announced that Orange has been appointed as an Official Sponsor for Rugby World Cup 2007. Orange, one of the world’s foremost mobile communications companies, will provide an exclusive range of tournament-related mobile services.
“Rugby World Cup Limited is delighted to announce that Orange has joined the impressive list of Official Sponsors for Rugby World Cup 2007", said International Rugby Board Chairman, Dr. Syd Millar. "The appointment of a world leader in the mobile communications field further highlights the enormous attraction and prestige of the tournament as a major event on the world sporting calendar".
“With less than a year to go until the opening match kicks off in Paris, Rugby World Cup 2007 promises to be the most successful in its twenty year history. There has been unprecedented demand for tickets, all six global partnership packages have been sold and now we have another major sponsor on board. The tournament promises to be a true celebration of the world’s best rugby and I am sure that it will last long in our memories,” added Dr. Millar.
Orange has a long-standing commitment to major sporting events and has a strong affiliation with rugby through its association with the French Rugby Federation, the Top 14 League and the Romanian national team.

Orange will deliver the following mobile services at the tournament: a dedicated RWC 2007 WAP Portal for customers in Europe; video clips from all forty-eight tournament matches; and a news and results service.
The IRB Rugby World Cup commercial programme now incorporates six Worldwide Partners: Visa International, EDF, Peugeot, GMF, Société Générale and SNCF; and Official Sponsors – Heineken, Vediorbis, Capgemini and now Orange.
