UEFA and adidas have formally announced the signing of a long-term partnership granting adidas global sponsorship rights for the UEFA EURO 2008™ in Austria and Switzerland. In addition, adidas have extended their UEFA Champions League partnership by becoming the Official Ball Supplier for the UEFA Champions League until 2009.
Both the UEFA EURO 2008™ and UEFA Champions League partnerships ensure adidas broad presence in Europe and beyond. As the Official Sponsor of UEFA EURO 2008™, adidas will supply the Official Match Ball of the tournament and will supply the equipment for the officials, referees, volunteers and ball boys. In addition adidas will provide marketing and product support to other major UEFA tournaments such as the UEFA European Under-21 Championship (2007 and 2009) and the UEFA European Women’s Championship 2009.
As the Official Supplier to the UEFA Champions League, adidas will supply the balls for all the UEFA Champions League matches. In this new agreement, adidas will supply the balls for all thirty-two clubs taking part in the UEFA Champions League starting from the 2006/07 season. adidas will continue to supply the special match ball, the Finale, for the UEFA Champions League Final matches and will outfit the volunteers for the final. Additionally, adidas has the rights to design and market exclusive UEFA Champions League branded sportswear and will support the UEFA Young Champions grassroots event.
“Being associated with the next big football event, EURO 2008, and the Champions League, the biggest club competition worldwide, will help us to further strengthen and extend our global football market leadership,” said adidas AG CEO and Chairman Herbert Hainer. “We are very proud of our long-term partnership with UEFA and are looking forward to a continuation of this successful combination.”
“For UEFA this partnership means that we are in the fortunate position to be working with one of the top brands in football,” said UEFA President Lennart Johansson. “We are very pleased therefore to have concluded the contracts with adidas for both our top national team and our top club competitions.”
