Anticipation is riding high this year with exciting new elements including a short film competition called Done In Sixty Seconds. Budding film directors are being challenged to remake a movie of their choice into a one minute format on their mobile phone or DV camera.
The director of the winning entry will get to rub shoulders with the stars as they will receive their own awards trophy on the night. Entries are via the awards microsite www.empireonline.com/awards2008.
Also housed on the microsite is an interactive online image gallery where members of the public can answer questions to win K850i handsets, plus an awards blog. Every week there will be a chance for someone to win a year's subscription to Empire magazine.
An awards WAP site has been created enabling all mobile phone users to access content from the microsite, including a previous awards winners' gallery, a video covering the history of the awards and award winners video interviews.
The format of the ceremony is also changing, as it takes on a more TV friendly style, with fewer awards and more weight given to the Empire Icon Award.
"We're really excited about the introduction of the new interactive elements this year, which should give film

fans an even closer experience to the real thing. These are the best film awards in the movie calendar and I'm looking forward to seeing who walks away with the coveted prizes", said John Harber, Managing Director of Sony Ericsson UK.
Mark Dinning, Editor of Empire magazine, said "We are thrilled to be in partnership with Sony Ericsson once again. 2007 proved a fantastic year for movies, and the event will be another great night in true awards fashion.
"The K850i Cyber-shotTM is a 5 megapixel cameraphone packed with features. Xenon Flash and Video Light together produce true digital camera results, whilst Photo Fix and BestPicTM ensure you always take the best shot, no matter how good you are at photography".
The Sony Ericsson Empire Awards will take place on 9th March at The Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, and be shown on ITV2 on 10th March.
