T-Mobile to sponsor Soccer Aid in aid of UNICEF

ITV has announced that T-Mobile is to be the exclusive sponsor for Soccer Aid on ITV1 and ITV2 this summer.

The fully integrated package includes broadcast sponsorship of Soccer Aid on ITV1 and ITV2, online and red button sponsorship, mobile interactivity and on and off-air marketing. The website www.itv.com/socceraid will provide all the latest news and gossip from the two teams and will also contain video highlights from the programme.

Soccer Aid will see World Cup legends and top celebrities teaming up to go head-to-head in England versus The Rest of The World, all in aid of charity UNICEF. Former England manager Terry Venables will take charge of the home nation, assisted on the pitch by superstar captain, Robbie Williams, while Ruud Gullit takes the helm of The Rest of The World alongside his captain, Gordon Ramsay. Soccer Aid will be presented by Ant and Dec.

Both squads contain eleven celebrities and five footballing legends. Daily programmes on ITV1 and ITV2 will follow them, along with stars from the world of showbiz and sport, as well as experienced football pundits, as they spend the week training, bonding, socialising and competing for a coveted place in the starting line-ups.

Phil Chapman, T-Mobile UK's Director of Marketing was upbeat about the new deal: "T-Mobile is proud to be associated with such a fantastic event, where celebrity and sport come together in the name of a great cause. In the run up to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, for which T-Mobile is an official partner, Soccer Aid will be superb showcase for the talents of the world-class stars of showbiz and football. It will also be a insight into the abilities of some football mad celebrities, including Robbie Williams with whom T-Mobile has forged an exclusive 18-month partnership."

Soccer Aid is in aid of UNICEF's work for children throughout the world. UNICEF works jointly with partners to help children reach their full potential through long-term and emergency work on health, education and protection for children at risk. UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions and funds raised by Soccer Aid will enable UNICEF and partners to help more children worldwide.

Kevin Giles, Senior Sponsorship & Branded Content Executive at ITV Sales, negotiated the deal with Chris Holdom at SponsorCom. He said: "We are delighted that T-Mobile has come on board to sponsor Soccer Aid on ITV. Thanks to their support we can provide viewers with many more opportunities to interact with the programming from red button and online to mobile interactivity."

The big match will be played on the hallowed turf of Old Trafford in front of an all-time record attendance crowd of 76,000 on May 27th.

Saatchi & Saatchi will be producing the bespoke sponsorship credits.
