Certys' account of their Global Short Story Competition should be a real page-turner for sponsors
Certys Limited is a media company (www.certys.co.uk), whose work includes public relations, marketing and web-based projects, and one of its areas of speciality is the arts, specifically creative writing. Director John Dean is a published novelist and creative writing tutor. Certys has launched the monthly Global Short Story Competition, which has already attracted entries from across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, Finland, France, Switzerland and South Korea to name a few.
The competition is designed to appeal to writers everywhere and Certys already has extensive experience in running such competitions in the UK. So why did they launch this competition? Because they feel that the short story is endangered and they want to give undiscovered writers a voice and a chance to earn some money, and gain exposure, from their work. The judge is well-respected north east England author Fiona Cooper. Details of the competition can be obtained by visiting www.globalshortstories.net. The competition is entirely dependent on income from entries and a sponsor is needed to grow it: £10,000 is needed for the first year. So what will sponsors get for their money? Exposure across the UK and the wider world, their logo on the Certys website, a link to the sponsor's site if required and a mention in every bit of public relations material that the company sends out. Certys has already had decent coverage both in the local media and on many national and regional websites, for instance in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Indeed, regional development agency One NorthEast is working with Certys through a public relations agency it has retained in Australia and New Zealand to develop the competition's profile 'down under', linking it to the agency's Passionate People, Passionate Places campaign.
