Southern Fire festival could set music sponsor's programme alight
Southern Fire is a two day outdoor music festival aimed at showcasing South Africa, her culture and her people through music on a global stage. It is a celebration of South Africa and her talent and will present South Africa's best musicians across all genres of music to the people of London.
Why Southern Fire? "As a South African living in London", says organiser Clayton Cook, "I meet people who continually ask me about home, the politics, the people, wildlife, nature and music. Through these conversations I began to see the need to promote South Africa and bring her people, culture and talent to the fore".
Thus the idea for Southern Fire was born. "With South Africa set to host the FIFA World Cup of Football in 2010, and along with our unique fauna and flora, it is a great time to be South African and to promote my country to people of other cultures", adds Cook. "The aim of Southern Fire is to bring people from different cultures together, to share in a day of celebration of South African music and culture. We want Southern Fire to be an awesome experience for all involved, to birth a seed into London that will continue to grow and allow us to celebrate our great nation annually, abroad".
"Southern Fire is not a charity event. However, one cannot ignore the impact on Africa with regards to AIDS and HIV. We plan to donate a percentage of every ticket sold to a charity of our choice. Southern Fire is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness and bring exposure and information on a subject that has often been ignored. Our ultimate aim is to make Southern Fire a successful and annual event".
