MAGGIE'S CANCER CARING CENTRES CAN FIND A GOOD HOME FOR SPONSORS' FUNDS
Maggie's is an innovative cancer charity that provides free emotional and practical support to anyone who has, or who has had, cancer. The centres also offer support for families, friends and carers. They are homely and imaginatively designed spaces, which contrast with the functionality of hospitals, where people can come to be themselves, not hospital patients. The aim of Maggie's Centres is to help people with cancer be as healthy in mind and body as possible
and enable them to make their own contribution to their medical treatment and recovery. Visiting Maggie's is like coming to a good friend's house. High quality, free professional psychological support, stress management, advice and information are offered within an uplifting and welcoming space, easing the immense stress of a cancer diagnosis. There are currently five Maggie's Centres open in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Dundee and Fife. By 2011 these will be joined by centres in London, Oxford, Nottingham, Newcastle, Swansea, Cotswolds and Lanarkshire. Maggie's relies entirely upon charitable donations to build and run each centre which cost around £1 million to build and £250,000 a year to run. Each year, Maggie's Events Team hosts several national fundraising events in order to raise as much money as possible to support and grow Maggie's network of Cancer Caring Centres across the UK. Events which appear on their events calendar are The Monster Bike and Hike in Scotland, The Megahike in Oxfordshire and Maggie's London Night Hike. There are a variety of sponsorship opportunities associated with each of the charity'sfundraising events, ranging from event sponsorship to stage sponsorship. In addition to direct sponsorship of fundraising events, there are
other ways in which sponsors can help Maggie's, for example: charity of the year, in-kind donations, payroll giving and recycling.
