DISABLED GEOFF'S YACHTING RECORD ATTEMPT COULD BE ON COURSE FOR SUCCESS WITH SPONSORS ABOARD
|
Geoff Holt is paralysed from the chest down and confined to a wheelchair. For the past twenty years he has set numerous records in disabled yachting. Personal Everest is the ultimate sailing challenge which will see him sail the 1,600 miles around Great Britain in his specially adapted 15ft trimaran dinghy. He will sail a maximum of eight hours a day and the event will take approximately fifty days to complete. Never before has such an attempt been made and success will see Geoff and his sponsors enter the record books. Geoff's support team will consist of his wife, who will be driving the specially modified, wheelchair accessible motor home. At sea, he will be followed by a RNIB dinghy which will be crewed by two qualified persons - they will deliver food and drink to him and provide immediate safety cover. There will also be a yacht which will act as a "mothership", providing a secure platform for the RNIB crew between shifts and also accommodation at night. The BBC have expressed an interest in following the challenge and discussions are currently underway with a TV production company who aim to make a one hour documentary for a major TV network. A book deal is also being discussed. With fifty ports of arrival and departure, each one will provide extensive PR opportunities to a sponsor.
