THE CALABASH CARNIVAL CLUB SEEKS SPONSORS' HELP TO GET THEIR SHOW ON THE ROAD
The Calabash is a carnival band which was set up in 2003. It facilitates three workshops per year to encourage young people to get involved in carnival and to utilise their creative skills. All the members of the club are volunteers and work hard to bring about the success of the club. 2006 will be the club's third appearance at the Notting Hill Carnival - but unfortunately the club's organisers have not managed to secure any funding for this year. They are seeking sponsorship for approximately £5,000, to cover the cost of the DJ, lorry, generator and driver. They are also looking to purchase about twelve fluorescent stewards' jackets. Club members are actively fundraising to raise the cost needed for the costumes. In previous years they have taken twenty-five youngsters to Notting Hill, some of whom had not participated in the Notting Hill Carnival before. The club is looking to increase this number to at least thirty youngsters and about 60-70 adults. They are able to meet with any potential sponsors, should they wish to discuss anything further. (Note: the band's website in the process of being constructed).
