ULSTER YOUTH ORCHESTRA WILL MAKE CONCERTED EFFORTS FOR SPONSORS
The Ulster Youth Orchestra was established in 1993 to give young people from across Northern Ireland the very best quality tuition, along with the chance to perform with the world’s leading musicians and conductors.
It offers an opportunity for talented young musicians to take a significant step closer to realising their real potential and to take on an ambassadorial role for Northern Ireland in the national and international concert world. The orchestra encourages the development of musical talent regardless of whether or not there is the intention to pursue a career in music and it has a role in developing key life skills - communication, co-operation, respect, commitment, motivation and the ability to work as part of a team. It helps in the personal development of young people, building self-esteem and confidence and equipping them to contribute positively as a responsible citizen in our society.
The orchestra holds an annual ten-day residential course in August for around 100 young people aged between 14 and 23. They have the opportunity to work with internationally renowned conductors and a team of tutors made up of top orchestral musicians from across the UK. The intensive tutoring and rehearsal is followed by public performances in major concert halls in Ireland and abroad. The summer course and concerts will take place from 11th-21st August 2004 at the University of Ulster, Coleraine. During the course UYO members will work on a programme of music including Strauss Till Eulenspeigel and Shostakovich Symphony No 7. Concert performances will take place on Thursday 19th (venue t.b.c.), Friday 20th in Derry and Saturday 21st, Sunday 29th August in the Ulster Hall, Belfast. The conductor will be Nicholas Braithwaite, a conductor of internationally acclaimed for his recordings of Shostakovich.
The Ulster Youth Orchestra Annual Residential Course and Concerts attract widespread publicity in the Belfast and local press on radio and television. The annual Belfast concert is recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster. To continue to maintain the high standard of UYO activities and to develop increased opportunities for our young people UYO requires support in many ways, e.g. support towards the core running of the organisation, support for a particular project or support towards members fees (in order to enable the orchestra to assist members in difficult circumstances and also to keep fees as low as possible).
Benefits include: being associated with a high quality, cross community organisation providing educational opportunities and training for young people from Belfast and across Northern Ireland; acknowledgement on printed material; complimentary tickets; opportunities for corporate hospitality, receptions etc.; photo and public relations opportunities.
