JACKDAWS MUSICAL PLANS COULD TAKE FLIGHT WITH HELP FROM SPONSORS
Jackdaws is a small centre for serious/classical music education based in the village of Great Elm near Frome in Somerset.
All of the activity undertaken at Jackdaws is guided by the principle that the deepest pleasure in music comes from understanding and hard work. The Jackdaws setting at Great Elm - a recently converted stable block set by a millpond in the beautiful Vallis Vale - is highly conducive to promoting this serious and thoughtful attitude to music.
The Trust currently runs three artistic programmes: residential music courses for amateur musicians and young professionals; schools and community projects
for children, teachers and parents in Frome and outlying villages; and a year-round concert series including an annual Midsummer Concert Weekend and the Great Elm Vocal Awards for aspiring young professional singers.
The considerable successes realised by Jackdaws over the last ten years could only have been achieved by generous donations from both corporate bodies and private individuals. Two years ago, by means of the Jackdaws Development Appeal, sufficient funds had been raised to enable purchase of the Trust's premises - the Coach House by the millpond at Great Elm.
However, further progress is essential. Over the coming year, Jackdaws is looking at ways to develop the building and its facilities into a financially sustainable top-class centre for classical music education in the UK
A range of fundraising activities is underway, and the organisation is also hoping to attract sponsorship support.
