SPONSORING THIS YOUNG THEATRE COMPANY IS ALWAYS AWKWARD
"It is refreshing to see a director, cast and crew tackle such an ambitious project, and it is almost alarming to see it so well done", Alec Patton, Stainless.

always awkward are a recently formed young theatre company and art collective but there is already a huge buzz about them. They are based in Sheffield and Leeds, where for the past four years they have been working separately on a professional level of performance, direction and design with regular critical acclaim from local press. Their first project was a piece of new writing, Boxes, performed in Leeds. Mark Batty, internationally published theatre expert, commented on the "inventive use of dialogue" which carried the play powerfully "without compromising any consideration of the ethics that are being questioned". Their production of 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane received a commendation from the national student drama festival. Their present project is the creation of a piece of new writing to be premièred at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival '03.

They have the full support of their venue, Komedia, they tell us, who have already billed them as a priority 'must see' show. always awkward's aims are to promote and create challenging, non-didactic theatre which questions and reassesses our society, through the use of language, emotion and movement. Their artistic interests are wide-reaching, as all aspects of theatre interest them from the experimental to technical expertise and the incorporation of design and musical talent in their productions. For the purpose of the Edinburgh run, the company are working with Ian Sommerville, internationally-renowned and award winning lighting designer.

They have already received sponsorship from Chaos Ergonomics and are patroned by various important academics in the world of theatre. They seek sponsorship of a financial nature and material to help them in present and future projects.

They offer any interested companies the chance to expose their logos or products to a wide audience and be part of an exciting new project with an up-and-coming vibrant company.
