ARTS SPONSORS COULD BE ON SONG WITH LEEDS PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY
The chorus of the Leeds Philharmonic Society is a chorus of national standing and has made a number of commercial recordings. Its members are all amateurs, however, and the society is largely self-financing.
The chorus has about 200 singing members, performing mainly in Leeds Town Hall. But it has a long history of performances in other venues and tours.
The concerts sung in Leeds are promotions of the society, often undertaken jointly with other organisations such as the BBC, Classic FM and Leeds Leisure Services, as well as with commercial sponsors. Joint promotions with the BBC and Classic FM are usually broadcast.
As well as promoting and co-promoting major performances, the society also holds open rehearsals and singing days for any interested singers to attend.
The society is now looking for sponsors for two areas of its activities. First, to enable the chorus to undertake an overseas tour of some 100+ singers to Tallinn, Helsinki and St. Petersburg,
without the financial burden being totally on the chorus's individual members. The society anticipates having to meet the cost of travel and accommodation, together with the cost of an organist, orchestra, soloists and music hire in the host countries. Secondly, to contribute to the cost of those concerts.
The Society promotes itself, outside of the Leeds International Concert Season. Again it is looking at the cost of a conductor, orchestra, soloists and the hire of Leeds Town Hall or other venue.
