This is a high profile project within both the school and the local authority. In addition to discussing the books amongst themselves, students also interact with the shadowing group at Buxton Community School through e-mail, video-conferencing and a group work session where the two schools meet up. The video-conferencing has proved problematic because they have to travel to a public library. There is no IT support for when the software/hardware crashes and is disruptive for the library’s users. The school wants to set up a high quality video-conferencing facility of its own to a) benefit the Carnegie Shadowing group, b) set up links with schools in other countries and c) offer the service, with attendant IT support, to the local community.
The school is seeking sponsorship for this project through the donation of equipment and expertise in money/finance. The sponsor would benefit by having the facility named after them and through being associated with this enterprising and forward thinking school.
