Along with big visitor numbers, York's new Show in the Park festival promises sponsors a feast of publicity, performances and pyrotechnics
York will add a new event to its tourism calendar in 2016 with the launch of a summer festival called Show in the Park, due to take place at York's Knavesmire area from 11.00am to 10.00pm on 30th and 31st July.
With two full days of family entertainment, from Monster Trucks to Party Bands, Bar to Street Food, Display Teams to Craft Fair and much more, there will be plenty of fun for all the family.
"The two-day family festival features live music, galloping horses, stunt shows, BMX displays and many more events and activities. Punch and Judy shows, circus workshops and a petting zoo will appeal to younger members of the family, whilst performances from Take That and One Direction tribute bands will be the highlight of the evening entertainment. Monster truck Red Dragon will also be performing throughout each day with a chance to ride on board, and each evening will end with stunning pyrotechnic displays from Twister Pyrotechnics launching fireworks from aeroplanes!
"The festival is set to include daytime arena displays, a fairground and live music, as well as the aerial pyrotechnic displays, which will close the festival on both days. Show in the Park is the latest project from York-based company Events & Attractions Limited, which has been involved in running events in England for twenty-five years.
Daytime highlights: groups planning a visit to the new festival will be able to see a variety of daytime attractions. The main arena will host displays including galloping horses, stunt shows, clown cars and BMX demonstrations. A second arena will host a Red Dragon Monster Truck - a giant truck seating up to ten passengers who can enjoy a bumpy ride aboard the vehicle. There will also be an area for children, who will be able to learn circus skills, enjoy Punch & Judy and meet animals in a petting zoo. Further daytime highlights include walkabout entertainers and a collection of funfair rides.
The festival after dark: in the evening, the main stage will host a party band as a warm-up act to a major tribute act each evening. These will be a One Direction tribute on Saturday evening and a Take That act on Sunday. The festival will end each day with 'Twister' pyrotechnics - fireworks fired out of planes to create an exciting finale.
Ticket information: tickets are on sale now, and organisers can choose to pay for a £12.50 adult ticket for each day, or a combined two-day ticket at a cheaper rate of £20. The daytime entertainment and evening concerts are included in the price, and those booking online in advance will receive £5.00-worth of discount vouchers redeemable at the funfair. "Sponsors will benefit from large attendances and major high profile publicity across the region. The event is licensed for ten thousand people on both days. Minster fm, which covers the city of York and surrounding areas such as Selby, Tadcaster, Thirsk, Goole, Howden and parts of Leeds, will be broadcasting live on both days and also compering the event on both days. Interviews and adverts will be broadcast during the lead-up to the event.
"Newspapers and magazines have already been publishing stories about the event and working alongside our PR company. In advance of the event, there will also be a 25-mile radius poster advertising campaign, covering a huge area with thousands of posters.
