Amy Howcroft's request for sponsorship of her World Challenge is one that deserves to be listened to
Amy Howcroft is seventeen years old. She is profoundly deaf and in July/August 2014 she will be travelling to Zambia in Africa.
"My disability makes it a lot harder for me to do something like this than it would be for a normal hearing person.
"I am travelling with a team of people from my school here in Liverpool, England, with a team leader from the World Challenge organisation. However, I need to raise £3,599 to go on this expedition.
"The expedition will take us twenty-eight days. During this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I and my team will be staying with a community of people in Zambia, and we will be working on a series of projects to help them and make their lives easier.
"These projects include building/renovating a school in the village, renovating a maternity ward in a hospital and also possibly fixing/improving the hygiene facilities. We will also be carrying out schemes to educate the children and adults in the community, by teaching them English and sharing our lifestyles and knowledge.
"Alongside this we will be educating them on sports and actually playing the sports with them. Our accommodation in country will be living in a tent using basic amenities. We will be going on a series of treks around the country and gaining cultural experiences.
"These costs will cover our equipment and kit, the materials needed for our physical projects, food costs, travel expenses and also insurance and safety expenses.
"I hope that you would be happy to donate a sum of money, regardless of the amount. It will help me in my efforts to try and raise this money. Thank you for taking the time to read this".
