Dramatic football associations in play as Strike Theatre Company seeks sponsorship supporters for its powerful new production, Whistler

Strike Theatre Company is an East Midlands based professional theatre company which produces and tours a diverse and eclectic mix of modern and new works.

The finance for a Strike Theatre Company production is raised on a per-production basis.

"To help us achieve our production budget in order to engage, inspire, and entertain audiences from all sectors of society, we are looking for sponsorship from individuals and/or companies.

"Our next production is Whistler, a brand new comedy drama from the pen of up-and-coming Nottingham-based playwright Simon Carter, a play about football, beer and coalmining ...

"It's 1977. Chas has a mate at the pit. Referees football matches. Not just any football matches. Big football matches. Huge. They don't come much bigger than the F.A. Cup Final. And they don't come much brasher and braver than Chas's mate Whistler. Do they? But Chas knows different. He knows what keeps Whistler awake at night, about the demons that plague him. He knows that soon he'll have to save the brother he never had from destroying himself, for the community he loves, in pursuit of glory on the hallowed turf beyond Wembley's twin towers ...

"Exploring themes of friendship, hero worship and loss, Whistler powerfully captures the spirit of the East Midlands coal mining community of the 1970s. At turns comic and tragic, it tells the story of a local legend reaching for his dreams and the great friend forever caught in his shadow.

The play will receive its world premier production at the Nottingham Arts Theatre in November/December 2012, prior to a regional tour in 2013.

"Our sponsorship target is £6,000. For more information on how you can help, and what we can offer in return, please contact Artistic Director Darren Bancroft on 07005 964647".
