Caring sponsors who get wind of Sail 4 Cancer J/80's plans should soon be on course for success
Tim Murdoch and Robert Aldous are looking for a sponsorship deal like no other previously requested.
The young, dynamic duo are looking for a modest two year investment whereby the successful sponsor actually gets a return on their investment, not only from publicity but from the resale of equipment used and having exclusive rights to videos, pictures and stories gathered along the way.
All high value memorabilia will be auctioned off at a close-of-event dinner/dance at the Royal Southern Yacht Club, Southampton, with title sponsor, trustees and partners and many more invited.
How the concept works
For an investment of £57,000 Tim and Robert will purchase a J/80 sports boat, have it completely branded with the sponsor's logos and slogans (hull, sails and spars) and enter every high profile race there is in 2012 (including the JP Morgan Round the Island Race, Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, The J80 World Championship in Dartmouth, the Garmin Hamble Winter Series, etc.).
"2012 will be the year which generates initial exposure during on-the-water racing and providing excellent racing results accrediting your company name and branding. The yacht will be exposed to other large sailing events such as the Super Yacht Cup in Cowes during June 2012 and the original 'J' cup during July 2012 in the Solent.
"There will be huge press coverage during these 'once in a lifetime' prestigious events.
"'Our' J80 will be part of it all and shown off in the best fashion. 2013 is the big one! We will devote the early months of the year reminding everyone of our racing credentials and the forthcoming round Britain event, entering all the Solent series races, fully crewed, 2-handed and also some solo events.
"In June 2013 we will race the J80 around mainland Britain 2-handed against the clock! This has never been done before and is already attracting quite a following. BBC South Today has already got wind of it and wish to arrange for interviews pre-race, during the race and post-race.
"The race will be broken into seven legs, each as challenging as the other, with the start and finish line being off Cowes' Yacht Squadron, the Mecca of yacht racing. The race will be in a clockwise direction and will start on Sunday, 2nd June, 2013, following two days and evenings of media hob-knobbing, fundraising and awareness for the charity we wish to represent, Sail 4 Cancer.
"The race is open to all other J80s, up to a restriction of not more than twenty boats".
