CHURCHILL - The Musical seeks sponsorship allies for its plans to conquer the hearts of theatregoers
CHURCHILL - The Musical is a brand new stage show written by Derek Charles Ash and Trevor Holman, which portrays both the private and public life of Sir Winston Churchill, from his loving marriage to Clemmie, through to his retirement from all forms of public life.
Sixteen brand new songs (demo CD available), each of which has been carefully crafted to create the appropriate musical feel, style and atmosphere, help portray not only the very loving relationship between Winston and Clemmie, but also show the great humour and razor sharp wit for which Winston was world renowned.
The show presents an entertaining insight into both the public and private life of the man voted by the British public 'The Greatest Briton to have ever lived'. CHURCHILL - The Musical is scheduled to have its opening World Premiere Gala Night on Saturday, 2nd October, 2010.
The writers and producers, both of whom live and work in the Algarve, are still in discussion with several UK theatres, but they decided that as the show was written and created in the Algarve it would be only right and proper to have the opening world premiere in the Algarve.
CHURCHILL - The Musical will be a co-production with the Camera (council) of Lagoa and the location will be the excellent 300 seat modern theatre in the town of Lagoa, with a special 'Red Carpet Gala Night' for the world premiere, followed by a week long run including two matinees, before the show moves to other theatres and locations.
Casting
The show is being directed by Ray Jeffery, whose career in the theatre encompasses over four decades, during which time he has directed over a thousand musicals and two hundred plays, including the 'off London' world premieres of Fiddler on the Roof, La Cage Aux Folles, Billy and Les Miserables.
Work has already started on the various aspects required to put on the show, such as basic set design and build, props, costumes, wigs, lighting scripts, music scores, arrangements and choreography, and Ray is now busy casting in the UK. The show will have an onstage cast of thirty-two, with twenty professional actors, singers and dancers flying to the Algarve from the UK and an additional twelve cast members drawn from Algarve auditions.
A very experienced and highly professional backstage team of stage director, choreographer, wardrobe mistress, wig master and lighting designer is being assembled by Ray from various UK theatres and together with a stage crew from the Algarve a team of approximately fifty people will be working on the show.
Tickets will be on sale from April onwards and a very exciting future is predicted for the show. The show is costing approximately £100,000 to stage and interested sponsors and investors should contact the writers and producers.
