Phyllis Dimond exhibition could add a sparkle to its sponsor's image
Sponsorship is being sought for the first ever exhibition devoted entirely to the work of the artist Phyllis Dimond (1911-2008).
Including watercolours, graphic art and design, it will be shown at The Dean's Cloister, St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, from October 8th to 23rd this year.
The artist, who studied at the Royal College of Art, was a pupil of Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious and a contemporary of Ruskin Spear. She specialised in watercolours of London buildings and took part in the project Recording Britain during the Second World War.
Her topographical and still-life work has been greatly admired and is distinguished by close attention to detail and her delightful designs have wit and lightness of touch.
Many of the designs were produced as greetings cards and other paper ephemera by the Redfern, Medici and Ward Galleries; in the latter case her work shared a billing with that of artists such as Duncan Grant, Gwen Raverat, Rex Whistler, Lord Berners and Rowland Hilder.
The exhibition will contain up to fifty works dating from the 1920s to the beginning of the 2000s and will show the artist's early drawings as well as her later pictures, including her last painting, finished in 2004. It will be publicised on the Chapel website and elsewhere.
There will be a fully illustrated catalogue.
