High media coverage assured, as Iraq's young players orchestrate a British tour to feature a new piece
Britain is the first outreach undertaken by the National Youth Orchestra of Iraq, after their hugely successful first concert in north Iraq last year.
They plan to share Iraqi and western classical music with other young players in London, perform in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and then collaborate with Edinburgh Youth Orchestra in a joint performance.
This includes a new piece by their honorary composer-in-residence, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, with Julian Lloyd Webber as soloist. The players have been struggling against war, terrorism and lack of teaching for years. Through the NYOI, they can come together from all over Iraq to share a hopeful, dynamic and positive side of their country and cultures. The NYOI is driven by love, respect and commitment.
"We need your support to help rebuild music in Iraq.
"Among other benefits, coverage of our proposed visit is being discussed with radio, television, internet and newspaper media. Our souvenir brochure and the tour website will carry your logo".
