Johnstone's Paint to end Football League Trophy sponsorship
One of English football's longest running sponsorship agreements will come to an end next Sunday, with Johnstone's Paint concluding its ten year partnership of The Football League Trophy after the 2015/16 final between Barnsley and Oxford United at Wembley on April 3rd.
During the last decade, more than 2.2 million people have attended matches in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, the cup competition for clubs from Leagues 1 and 2 with more than £4m of prize money being paid to participating clubs.
The Football League's Chief Executive, Shaun Harvey, said: "On behalf of League 1 and League 2 clubs, I would like to thank Johnstone's Paint for ten years of committed and very loyal partnership.
"This competition has flourished during their time as sponsor, as will be demonstrated when 60,000 fans join us at Wembley in two weeks time for this season's final.
"We wish Johnstone's Paint every success in the future and we now begin looking for a new partner for the 2016/17 season and beyond".
Jason Metcalf, Marketing Director for Johnstone's Paint, said: "It has been a fantastic partnership for the business and our high-profile association with the UK's most popular sport has certainly helped cement Johnstone's position as a leading paint manufacturer in the UK. The Johnstone's brand is continuing to grow and has developed into a household name across the partnership period.
"The competition has gone from strength to strength and improved year-on-year and the nine finals that have taken place, so far, under our partnership - one at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium and eight at Wembley - have all been truly memorable occasions.
"We have enjoyed a very close working relationship with The Football League throughout the last decade and the fact that this represents one of the longest sponsorships in English football is testament to that successful partnership."
