Team Aguri announces Gulf Oil sponsorship
Team Aguri has announced that Gulf, through its recently appointed Mexican Fuel Licensee, IF Vertical 2, will become the team's title sponsor ahead of the Mexico ePrix this weekend.
To mark the partnership, the Team Aguri cars will sport a new livery, running in the famous Gulf Oil International blue and orange racing colours, with prominent branding on the all-electric racers as well as the team kit.
The deal marks Gulf Oil International's first foray into electric motorsport and demonstrates the brand’s commitment to developing new products that reflect the changing face of the automotive industry. The brand has become synonymous with motorsport, having been the headline sponsor for some of the most iconic cars in endurance racing.
Frank Rutten, Gulf Vice President International, commented: "Gulf has a long history of success in motorsport, and, through IF Vertical 2's exciting initiative in Mexico we are delighted to see Gulf make its debut in FIA Formula E with Team Aguri to continue our heritage of racing excellence. Our participation in this event maintains Gulf’s long history of being at the forefront of innovation in all aspects of our business”.
"The move reflects the changing focus of the automotive industry, with manufacturers increasingly focusing on the development of electric and hybrid vehicles. These new vehicles will require new lubricant solutions to ensure they run at optimum efficiency and to support the evolving technologies that will provide increased range, faster charging and greater durability. The Gulf brand's involvement in Formula E will put us at the forefront of these developments".
Team Aguri is one of the founding members of the FIA Formula E Championship, and draws on a legacy of competing in the highest echelons of motorsport. The team achieved its first win in the series in only the fourth race of the inaugural season, and has continued to impress by driving innovations in software and technology development at the cutting-edge of automotive engineering.
Marc Faggionato, Team Aguri Owner, commented: "To work with a global brand such as Gulf is a real coup for the team, and reinforces our commitment to driving the development of the future automotive technologies that will become commonplace in the road cars of tomorrow. We are excited about our partnership and look forward to forging a strong and lasting relationship".
Formula E makes its debut visit to Mexico this weekend, with the inaugural Mexico ePrix taking place at the 2.092km Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
