Betway to sponsor World Cup of Darts
The Professional Darts Corporation has announced that Betway will be the title sponsors of June's Betway World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt.
The 32-nation World Cup of Darts, televised live on Sky Sports and broadcast worldwide from June 2nd to 5th, will see two-player teams representing their nation in the unique Pairs format as they bid to claim the title.
Leading online bookmaker Betway's sponsorship of the sell-out event at Frankfurt's Eissporthalle extends their involvement in top-level darts, complementing their title sponsorship of the Betway Premier League since 2014.
"We're delighted that Betway have furthered their support of the PDC's leading championships through their sponsorship of the Betway World Cup of Darts," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.
"This global event will be a great platform to showcase their brand worldwide, with the World Cup of Darts' ever-growing popularity reflected by increased interest from broadcasters around the world as well as from nations wishing to be involved in the tournament".
Betway's sponsorship portfolio also sees them as the principal sponsor of West Ham United football club and the UK Snooker Championship, as well as international sponsor of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas competitions, and they also sponsored the 2014 world title boxing fight between Carl Froch and George Groves at Wembley Stadium.
Betway is also a major sponsor in UK horseracing with its 'flagship' race, the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. In January 2015, the company also signed a wide-ranging deal to support four high-profile races in the Flat calendar: the Betway Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster, the Betway Chester Cup at Chester, and two contests at York, the Betway Yorkshire Cup and the Betway Great Voltigeur.
To provide customers with additional expert insight into sports, Betway has partnered with a number of sports ambassadors, including cricket's Simon Hughes (aka The Analyst) and ex-England rugby player Mike Tindall.
"Our sponsorship of the Betway Premier League has been immensely successful for the past two years, and we're strengthening our relationship with the PDC by supporting another blockbuster darts format", said Betway Operations and Marketing Director Anthony Werkman.
"I'm certain that the Betway World Cup of Darts will be yet another fantastic showcase for the sport and we are thrilled to be able to work closely with the PDC once again. We can't wait to bring darts fans closer to the action in Frankfurt".
Reigning Betway World Cup of Darts champions England, set to be represented again by Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis, will be bidding to win their fourth title since the event's inception in 2010, while the Netherlands have claimed two previous victories in the tournament.
Their rivals will include former finalists Wales, Australia, Belgium and Scotland - who were represented by World Champion Gary Anderson and Peter Wright as they reached the decider last year - alongside emerging nations from across the globe including the Philippines, Hong Kong, New Zealand and South Africa.
The full list of thirty-two competing nations and players will be confirmed in May ahead of the £250,000 tournament.
The Betway World Cup of Darts will begin with the first round split across Thursday, June 2nd and Friday, June 3rd in evening sessions.
The second round is held across two sessions on Saturday, June 4th, with the quarter-finals in the afternoon session on Sunday, June 5th, before the tournament concludes with both the semi-finals and final in the evening session.
