Lycamobile partners BFI for the 2014 Chinese film season
Lycamobile has announced its Main Sponsorship of the British Film Institute's 'A Century of Chinese Cinema' season, which will run from June 1st to October 7th, 2014, at BFI Southbank.
The BFI season is the largest and most comprehensive exploration of Chinese cinema ever to be undertaken in the UK and is partnered with TIFF.
In addition to this extended four month retrospective, the wide-ranging celebration will feature the nationwide release of Spring in a Small Town (20th June) and screenings of other Chinese classic films in key cities throughout the UK.
This is further supported by a host of DVD releases and a lavishly illustrated new BFI Compendium publication on the history of Chinese cinema, written by many of the world's foremost authorities on Chinese film. Digital content on the BFI Player will comprise rare non-fiction films of China from 1901 to 1949 from the BFI National Archive.
The season forms a key part of Electric Shadows, the BFI's extensive year-long programme of business, trade, creative and cultural collaborations with China.
The Main Sponsorship sees Lycamobile featured across all relevant advertising and collateral in the BFI Southbank venue, the BFI Southbank Guides and the BFI website as well as at the Beijing and Shaghai International Film Festivals.
Other sponsors include Cathay Pacific Airways and the hotel group Shangri-La.
Subaskaran Allirajah, Group Chairman of Lycamobile, said: "As a company which has long aspired to build stronger connections between communities, I firmly believe Lycamobile provides the BFI with a perfect partner to help drive forward their ambitious plans.
Lycamobile has a long and intimate association with the Chinese community and it is only right that we contribute to the celebration of its culture here in the UK. The BFI's Century of Chinese Cinema is a prestigious project, rich in talent and history; we are delighted to be involved".
