Pioneer in exclusive deal with National Geographic channel

Pioneer GB has announced an exclusive sponsorship deal with the National Geographic Channel (NGC). The deal includes broadcast sponsorship, interactive TV and online elements. The campaign will run for sixteen weeks.

Pioneer say the main objectives of the campaign are to effectively position Pioneer as the brand of choice for High Definition Televisions (HDTV), and promote the high definition format.

Pioneer will be sponsoring Megastructures and Wild Things, two of National Geographic Channel's flagship strands. The Megastructures series investigates the technical innovation behind some of the world's most incredible engineering feats and is a showcase for the HDTV platform. The Pioneer deal covers an eight-week run, with sponsorship content included in both new and repeat programming including Ice Hotel, Supertankers and Dubai's Palm Island.

The Wild Things strand delivers the best in natural history including Hunter Hunted and Cousteau: Ocean Adventures. Wild Things is also supported by an interactive TV service allowing viewers to access Pioneer-branded content, and competitions including the chance to win a Pioneer 42” HD Ready Plasma TV every week throughout the campaign.

Online activity has also been tied up with National Geographic Channel online, with a specially created micro-site dedicated to Pioneer-sponsored programming. Pioneer branded advertising will be present on the NGC website, which will take online users to the Pioneer sponsored microsite and the HDTV guide, detailing information about Plasma and High Definition. The site also hosts the competition information for the weekly HD plasma screen competition.

Heidi Johnson-Cash, General Manager – Marketing at Pioneer GB Ltd., commented:

"National Geographic HD content is ideal to show-off the prowess of our products and this new emerging format. We firmly believe that a combination of well-produced HDTV content and the best technology will help grow the HDTV format immeasurably in the UK and encourage consumers to switch to experience high definition viewing".

Deborah Armstrong, Senior VP, Media Sales & Partnership Marketing at National Geographic Channel, underlined the benefits of the deal:

"Pioneer is a great fit for our brand and audience. The NGC and NGC HD marketing partnership highlights Pioneer's support for HDTV programming in the UK and our ability to create relevant and valuable marketing partnerships. We're proud of the programme and the support from one of the world's leading manufacturers of HDTV products."
